In the early days of my library work, I was in an outreach-focused position. I started a program at San Francisco State University to match students with secret books and library materials based on “hints.” This was designed to connect students with library materials that might be relevant to their interests, and to show them the breadth of resources available to them. The images below depict our Blind Date for Black History Month, which featured library materials by and about Black authors, stories, histories, and futures.

image Description: Envelopes from the “blind date with a book” program. We had our wonderful desk students help us decorate the envelopes. Each envelope has hints about what book (AKA QR Code to a catalog link) is inside. There is also a banner featuring prominent fiction and nonfiction works by black american authors.
